Coach Kozak gives insight on how to reach your goals. Everyone is different and we will all have our own set of challenges, but achieving your goals can be done if you avoid the most common mistakes.
The first step to reaching your goals, whether it’s fitness related or anything else, is you have to set a concrete goal. Too often people set vague goals like, “I want to be healthy,” and that isn’t good enough. You need to set clear goals that you can strive for like, “I want to stop eating fast food, exercise at least 3x per week, and run a 5k.” Now that’s a goal you can measure and achieve.
Often when we set goals, we’ll get discouraged because we either don’t feel like we’re accomplishing it quick enough, or it’s hard to take a step back and see how far we’ve really come. Don’t be discouraged by how far you have to go, instead be excited about where you’re headed and be proud of yourself for how far you’ve come.
I know no one likes hearing this, including myself, but be patient. Anything worth achieving doesn’t happen overnight. It takes dedication and perseverance. It means you have to keep going when others would quit.
The cartoon image of one man who quit mining for diamonds right before he reached the diamonds is a favorite of mine. It illustrates so well why you should never give up reaching for your goals… Because you truly never realize how close you are.
You will never regret reaching your goal, you will only regret giving up and not trying hard enough.
