It’s Saturday! Which for me these past few weeks means its a RUN DAY! I’m training for a 15K (9 mile) race coming up on February 8th in Dallas, TX. It’s the Hot Chocolate 5K & 15K and get this….your prize for finishing is an amazing mug, check it…

Alright, I’ll be honest, I’m only running this because chocolate is involved and because I want that MUG!

In all seriousness, I enjoy running, it’s therapeutic and that runner’s high everyone talks about is real and totally addicting. So, because of my training for the race, I’ve had to incorporate running into my schedule now as opposed to sticking primarily to the weightloss and cardio routines I do online, much like you all. So this was my breakdown for the week:

SUNDAY: OFF DAY
MONDAY: 30 Minute Afterburn Workout
TUESDAY: 12 Minutes Blitz Back & Biceps / 10 Minute Shoulder Workout / 8 Minute Tabata Triceps Workout
WEDNESDAY: Run at 5K Pace
THURSDAY: OFF DAY
FRIDAY: Strength Circuit at the Gym (See Routine Below)
SATURDAY: 7 mile run

I work out 5 days a week without fail. It’s completely apart of my schedule now and while it took a few months of dragging my unmotivated self to get to that point, I absolutely LOVE the way I feel. I have more energy, my self confidence is much higher, and most importantly I do it for my health and for my family. I plan on being around as long as the Lord let’s me and I plan to be the best ME I can be.

So after our Friday night gym session, we jetted over to our favorite vegetarian restaurant that closes incredibly early (8pm), so that I could get my fix. I got the macrobiotic bowl which has black beans, steamed broccoli, seaweed, quinoa, sauerkraut, and kale. It’s so dang good.

Best part of the night…because we came in so close to closing time, they started giving away some sweet treats they had left over for free!!! I was so happy I nearly cried.

We opted for the vegan cinnamon maple cupcakes and flax chocolate chip cookies which were giant and totally delicious. All washed down with a nice glass of red wine because hey, I deserve it.

And cut to Saturday, I’m in a bacon mood. Yes, I know what you’re thinking, “I thought she was a vegan?” I like to think of myself as a part time vegan, part time vegetarian, and part time carnivore. I believe in balance and the power of food to nourish, repair, and fuel my body. I rarely and I mean rarely eat bacon but some days you wake up and think, it’s a bacon day. I baked some delicious uncured, nitrate free, and vegetarian fed bacon in the oven and made a delicious open-faced breakfast sandwich.

I smeared a piece of Millet-Chia gluten free bread with a bit of avocado, layered it with spinach, 1 piece of bacon, egg whites, and fat free cheese. Add a side of organic fruit and this breakfast is a WINNER. Only set me back 258 calories.

I’m headed out for a seven miler today and I wish you guys a safe, active and healthy weekend as always! And remember, I know it’s the weekend but don’t undo all your hard work from the week. Eat clean and train mean even on the weekends!
